The search is on. For cheap holidays that is. With Britain suffering one of the worst recessions it has ever been through, British holidaymakers are being forced to tighten their belts and search for the cheapest holiday packages they can find.

With a double dip recession official, and unemployment hitting almost nine percent, the British economy is punch drunk and staggering. However summer is also arriving and so determined Brits are looking to find cheap holidays while the sun is shining.

A recent Guardian article quoted statistics that show that despite the hard economic times Brits are still likely to splurge on ‘luxury’ items, like a takeaway coffee or a package holiday somewhere sunny and exotic.

The good news is that many travel agencies and websites will be offering juicy deals in order to tempt holidaymakers. Among the top locations will be many of the usual suspects, including Greece, Egypt, Turkey, the Canary Islands, and more.

Of course there are also many travel agencies that offer good deals on city breaks to European capitals like Rome, Paris or Barcelona or across the Atlantic to New York and other American destinations.

Thomas Cook vacations are currently some of the best deals on the web, offering such bargains as seven nights in an Egyptian resort for under £400. Another plum from Thomas Cook is Greece for seven nights for under £200.

For those who are more on the disorganised side of things and fail to plan ahead last minute deals can be had fairly easily these days.

Much of Europe is also suffering from the downturn, especially Greece, which could translate to more juicy deals and increased spending power for Brits in places like Turkey and Greece.

If you are on a trip to somewhere, obviously you want to see the best of the available attractions so that you do not return home with any remorse what so ever for missing out of something. And to miss out on Mallorca while you are on vacation in Europe is almost a crime. It is one of the most vibrant and most visited islands of the area. It has all the right vibes for all the types of travellers. This island has the perfect combination of things to make your vacation the most memorable as ever. It has the best of the beaches, the best of the weather and the best of the attractions for entertaining all travellers.

The capital of the island is Palma and the Palma Airport will be one of the first things that you will see in this island country. The Mediterranean climate will welcome you to this beautiful place and start off with your relaxing holiday. The best time to come to Mallorca is during the summer months of June to September. The city is most crowded in this point of time and one can find more people as tourists rather than the locals.

One of the best things about the place is its beaches. They have one of the best beaches in the world and they can mesmerize any one from across the world. They are very vibrant and live and have a lot of attractions for the visitors. The next thing is the lively nightlife that is there in this place. There are all kinds of entertainment for all tastes and they cater to late in the night. Additionally the cuisine of the city is simply awesome and one can have a stomach full of food. Also the attractive beautifully architecture buildings can be a real eyeful for the interested.

Everyone knows the classic holiday locations, such as Barbados, Dubai and Ibiza. However, sometimes it is tempting just to pack clothes, sunglasses and an American Express, and then head off somewhere entirely different. Read on to discover three alternative holidays that will get your heart racing with excitement.

Oman

If you have always dreamt of travelling to the middle-east don’t overlook Oman. Dubai may seem the obvious choice; however Oman boasts areas of unspoilt natural beauty, something which is rare to find in other wealthy parts of the middle-east. During your visit to the Gulf Of Oman you can enjoy bathing in the crystal blue waters, which are also ideal for diving and water activities. Oman offers breath-taking views of the mountains and deserts which can be reached through treks and day trips.

Namibia

Namibia is the perfect place to visit if you are looking to escape the chaotic crowds of Africa and long to enjoy a peaceful trip away, whilst still being able to appreciate the wild nature of Africa. Expect to see wild animals such as elephants roam freely in Namibia’s wide open spaces in the capital of Windhoek.

Aruba

Aruba is part of the ‘ABC’ islands which consist of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Enjoy this Caribbean way of life and relax under the heavenly suns, whilst sipping cocktails on the pearly white sands. Away from the Caribbean crowds in St Lucia this place really defines the word relax. Aruba will not disappoint with its breath-taking views, gentle seas, pristine beaches and the fantastic scenery at Eagle Bay. This holiday makes dreams come true.

There are so many things that one can say about Orlando holidays but the good thing is that a holiday package to Orlando will give you the best value for your money. Of course, everyone looks forward to a relaxing time for their holiday, where they can get away from it all. Now, all that you have heard about Orlando is right. There is so much for you to see and so little time for you to see it all such that you will have to come back. If you are smart, you will first want to head to the nearest tourist information center so that you see what you can expect from Orlando. If you love the sun, you will know just why Florida is called the sunshine state.

Even though you can visit Orlando any time that you like, there are times that you can have all the fun that you want. For example, if you could make your visit coincide with the Easter holiday, then that could be the best gift that you could ever give your family. On the same note, if you want to know the best times for visiting this dream vacation destination, then the months of September through to the end of the month of May are perfect. Don’t even worry about your budget, no matter how cheap it is because as slim as it is, as long as it is very reasonable, you will find a package here for it.

Of course, you could do your own booking, but booking through a travel agent is always best. For example, if you are not American, then you may not know some of the traffic laws there. When you book, you can ask the travel agent to supply you with all that information. Would you like to catch the Mardi Gras celebrations? If yes, then the time to book for your Orlando Holidays is now. But don’t worry even if you do not make that event to the Universal studios because you can be sure that there will be more. Every month, there is something going down in Orlando, just for you.

Now, it is so easy to say that you will enjoy yourself tremendously when you hit the sunshine state. However, there is so much choice and variety such that it will be overwhelming. You need to make prior preparations in advance so that when you get there, you will know where to start and to stop. It is also very important that you make sure that you stick to your schedule for the ultimate in Orlando holidays.

Exclusive to Universal Studios Orlando Get the 3-Park Ticket for the same price, free gifts and no credit card fees.

India is a magical and enchanting country however it’s incredible busy with crowds, traffic, pollution and if you don’t know where you are going, confusion.

It’s good to be ready for a few culture shocks when you arrive. Firstly, personal space doesn’t really exist with three people sharing one bus seat. If you are the only person on a seat, prepare to be joined by someone up close and personal! If you’re standing, you will be rammed up against an armpit. It’s definitely a unique experience and it will make you realise how lucky you are in other cities.

A lot of people put luggage on top of buses however I wouldn’t advise this as it’s likely to go missing. Keep it with you if you can. On the luggage note, try not to have too much so that you can’t carry it. This will attract unwanted attention. If you are taking a taxi or rickshaw, make you agree the price before your trip.

When it comes to getting around the country itself, India has an excellent and extensive rail network. It’s a great way to get around and see the country. These journeys themselves will become a key part of your trip as the experience of working through the bustling stations and sound of the chai man on the train stay with you forever. The long trains have their comforts so you don’t need to worry about armpits and getting close to strangers. There are even beds with clean sheets and pillows. There are actually 8 classes on Indian trains however 2ac is the normal class for most western travellers. The distances on the trains are quite long and the trains don’t go very fast so ensure to check times before you decide on the journey.

You can buy tickets at the station where you are departing from however to avoid the stress of the busy station it’s best to book in advance with a credit card. It’s actually quite reasonable to rent a car in India although few people do this. Be wary of driving around the cities if you do. It can be a stressful experience! With the distances between locations, it’s actually an amazing place for long distance motorcycle touring. The bikes handle the roads better and you are able to stop easily however it’s best not to do this alone.

Los Angeles is practically synonymous with Hollywood and there is certainly no shortage of sites to include in Los Angeles holiday packages.

1. First started in 1960, The Walk of Fame is among the most visited places in Hollywood. It is a tribute to those who have made great contributions to the entertainment industry and has been divided into several categories, some of which are radio, live performance, television, recording, and motion pictures.

2. Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, which first opened in 1927, has been a huge part of Hollywood history. It is visited by millions every year and is one of the most desired movie premiere places among directors and producers. Conveniently enough, the Walk of Fame is just in front of this landmark theatre.

3. Most Los Angeles holiday packages come with a tour to the homes of celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Tom Cruise, as well as the former homes of Elvis, Michael Jackson, and Frank Sinatra. The tours are only allowed to take visitors to the driveways of the famous homes, but they can take visitors to the posh places, like Rodeo Drive, the Sunset Strip, and Beverly Hills, where the stars hang out and go shopping.

4. The Hollywood Sign is a must-visit place for anyone going to Los Angeles. The sign overlooks the entire city and provides excellent photo opportunities. The sign itself is also quite impressive as each letter is more than four stories tall.

5. The Hollywood Wax Museum is a great place to spend a few hours. Home to over 220 wax figure replicas of famous motion picture and television stars, sports figures, and other celebrities, the museum provides a fun way to learn more about the history of Hollywood. Visitors can purchase a pass that grants access to the museum as well as Ripley’s and Guinness.

6. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the final resting place of many of the greatest stars in Hollywood. It has recently been refurbished and is a major attraction for those from all around the world. Every Saturday evening, visitors can gather in the cemetery to watch classic films that are shown by Cinespia.

7. The Hollywood History Museum is four floors tall and has loads of amazing memorabilia from movies of all ages. The special exhibits sometimes change every two weeks to one month, but some of the have lasted for six months. Popular exhibits are “Lucille Ball at 100”, “The Hollywood Museum celebrates Marilyn Monroe”, and the “Jean Harlow Exhibit”.

8. The Hollywood Bowl is an enormous amphitheater that has seen shows and performances by some of the best and most impressive names in almost every genre of music. People can visit the Hollywood Bowl during the day, and might even see someone rehearsing, but this amphitheater really comes to life at night. Tickets are not hard to come by as the theater can hold more than 17,600 people.

9. Even though it was only opened in 2001, the Kodak Theatre has become the main attraction of the Hollywood and Highland Center complex. This is mainly due to the fact that is where the Academy Awards are hosted every year. Visitors can shop, dine, and be entertained within the Kodak Theatre compound.

10. There are all sorts of stories about haunted places in Hollywood. So many, in fact, that there are even tours one can go on that visit places of famous murders, scandals, and mysterious deaths. While the verisimilitude of these tours is debatable, they are certainly entertaining. Most tours include the haunts of the Chinese Theatre, the Roosevelt Hotel, and the El Compadre Restaurant.

Alicante is a cheerful city located inside the Costa Blanca region. This region is really popular among tourists as they are a lot of interesting and fun places to visit which are mostly located near to the coastlines. Some other popular cities that are also located inside the Costa Blanca region will be Denia, Dolores and also Altea. You can find that the locals here are very friendly and they will always try their best to help you even though you have problems communicating with each other. Alicante is famously known for its festivals, where it can be said that there is at least one festival for each month of the year.

If you need a car to go to the interesting places inside Alicante, it will be quite easy as most of them are located near to the airport. This is for the convenience of the tourists themselves as they will not need to take a taxi or bus to go to the city centre to find a car rental company. Car hire Alicante is known for its value for money and you will find that the companies here do a lot of offers and discounts during the holiday season to attract customers. The cars provided are usually top quality and they are regularly serviced to maintain its usability.

One of the beaches in Alicante that always receives thousands of customers during the summer season is El Campello. Even though it is located quite far from the Alicante city centre, this is the beach that has the nearest apartment to the sea, so that you can go to the sea anytime you want without the need of transportation. Aside from Alicante, El Campello is also accessible from a couple of other cities like Benidorm, Denia and also Calpe by using the train.
This beach has a really peaceful atmosphere and you can always feel the sea breeze brushing your hair gently all day.

El Campello is a great place for sunbathing but those who love to swim are more than welcome to do so. If you are searching for a romantic beach getaway at Alicante, El Campello will be the best place to do so, you can book a room at the hotel here and you can easily have a romantic candle light dinner right beside the beach at the many restaurants here. You will certainly love the great atmosphere here at El Campello, Alicante.

When it comes to grabbing a great deal on your ski vacation, your best bet is to hold out to the last minute before booking. Excellent for those looking for adventure, what better way to guarantee ultimate spontaneity on when and where you take your ski vacation. The discounts are most likely to be at their greatest if you hold out till the last minute to book your ski trip. After all, unsold seats on planes and empty hotel rooms need to be filled, and operators will often reduce their prices in a bid to do this. The last minute concept is particularly suitable for those who aren’t tied down by family or work commitments which force them to book in advance to make sure of availability.

Besides the discounts you can experience, there are many other benefits to last minute bookings, take a look at our list on why.

Acting on impulse

The concept with last minute deals is that you should be able to book on the same morning or evening before you travel.

You could be on the slopes within hours!

England is in close proximity to many of Europe’s leading resorts like Val d’Isere and Alpe d’Huez meaning that budget ski holidays are easier to grab a last minute deal and be on the piste within a few hours.

Snowfall levels

Within some resorts, snowfall levels can be irregular. Instead of leaving the white stuff to chance, booking last minute will mean that you can keep an eye on snow reports in the lead up to your departure. This means that you can suss out exactly where the snow is falling at its best before selecting a resort. For this to work, you don’t automatically need to be acting on impulse. Why not set your dates in advance and then keep an eye on snow reports to see where conditions are best and match this with last minute deals.

Although there are a number of locations in Wales which appeal to holidaymakers, none are as popular as Brecon Beacons because of its stunningly beautiful landscape and National Park that holds a wide number of attractions for people of any age. From the Dinosaur Park for little people too high tea after a guided walk for those of a more sedate nature, there is literally something for everyone in the family, young or old.

One thing to keep in mind though when visiting Brecon Beacons is that it will be crucial to book a self catering cottage in order to get the most out of time spent here as there is no camping within the National Trust land of the park. In fact, there are cottages which can house any number of people from 3 to 14 and above and some rates begin as low as £250 per week. Of course it will depend on seasonal availability and the number of people in the family or group, but there are lovely independent cottages located within walking distance of the National Park.

Unless the time of your holiday is set in stone, it is a good idea to browse through the National Park scheduled events before booking your holiday in Brecon Beacons. Each year the park hosts some pretty amazing events from beer tasting to geo-walks to high tea and then there are historical and cultural festivals as well. Many people enjoy sitting near the base of a cascading waterfall whilst others enjoyed mountain biking through the area to get a bird’s eye view.

Independent cottages in Brecon Beacons are in high demand throughout the summer months so it is suggested that anyone looking to book a self catering cottage should do so as soon holiday dates are known. Even though there are a great number of them available they really do book up quite quickly which is why many families choose to book a year in advance. Once a family has taken a holiday in South Wales there is no place else on earth they would rather spend time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Steeped in history, the Welsh capital city of Cardiff makes for an excellent day or weekend visit. Extensively redeveloped in the 1990s, the city notably hosts a number of historic sites, while possessing a world class museum, and excellent entertainment, shopping and eating options. Some of Cardiff’s top attractions include:

Cardiff Castle

A battlement site for over 2000 years, Cardiff Castle is located in the centre of the city, and contains a number of different historic styles within its walled grounds. These styles range from Norman Keeps overlaying Roman forts, through to a mock Medieval Victorian mansion installed in the 19th century. Tours around the castle cost a small fee. Multiple activities are also available for children within the castle.

Bute Park

Adjacent to the castle, the landscaped gardens of Bute Park allow for picnicking on its open fields, and walking along the banks of the River Taff canal. The park also regularly hosts music and entertainment events, while Glamorgan Cricket Club play top flight games within the Park’s Sophia Gardens fields.

The National Museum Cardiff

A world class museum in the centre of the city’s civic district, the National Museum features permanent Impressionist art galleries and exhibits on natural history and the evolution of Wales. Temporary exhibits currently include an exploration of the life and adventures of Captain Scott. Entry is free for most exhibitions.

Millennium Stadium and Central Shopping

Any visit to Cardiff should take in the Millennium Stadium, a venue built in the 1990s for rugby, football, and live music events. Experience the Welsh love of rugby with a guided tour, or plan ahead to attend one of its many live concerts and fairs.

The Stadium is located within a short walk of the train station, and is surrounded by Cardiff’s main shopping streets. Particularly recommended is the renovated St David’s Centre and the John Lewis megastore, as well as the multiple Victorian arcades that run off the main streets.

Most hotels in Cardiff are also located near to the Millennium Stadium and train stations, as well as around the city’s bay area.

Cardiff Bay

A short bus trip from the city centre, Cardiff Bay includes the Mermaid Quay shopping and restaurant quarter, a preserved Norwegian Church, and regular exhibits at the Millennium Centre.

Children can also enjoy the science activity centre Techniquest, while boat rides can be taken out to nearby Penarth.
